Unity’s
World Day of Prayer
By
Reverend Liz Petipren
Dear
Friends, you and I are spiritual beings having a human
experience. On Thursday, September 10, 2009, Unity’s World
Day of Prayer, we have the opportunity to share the highest
blessing we can with friends and family. We can honor them
with our prayers and act on their behalf.
During
this special time, we have the chance to grow spiritually
and contribute to global transformation. How? We can go within through
prayer; then reach out to help others.
This
year’s theme for World Day of Prayer reflects our commitment
to both spiritual growth and social advancement: “Reach in. Reach out. We can
change the world.”
Your
participation is easy. As in the past, you may list the
names of family and friends you would like remembered in
prayer by filling out the enclosed prayer list; then send it
back or bring it with you to Unity in the Pines. We will use
your list to pray over at the World Day of Prayer Meditation
Hour on Thursday, September 10, 2009, after which we will
send all prayer requests to Silent Unity where they will be
prayed over for thirty days.
You may
also go online at www.worlddayofprayer.org
and
submit you prayer request. This year, for the first time,
names that are submitted online (if the
person
submitting
them chooses) will also be displayed online through a unique
Web
experience
at www.worlddayofprayer.org
.
People throughout the world will be able to join in praying
for all those whose names have been
submitted.
This
year Silent Unity also invites you to express the peace and
compassion you experience by reaching out in some way to
help others. You can put “feet under your prayers” by making
a difference in someone’s life. You might ask, "How can
I best be of
service to someone?" Your spiritual
action can be anything you are guided to do – volunteer in a
soup kitchen, start a clothing drive to help a local
battered women’s shelter. Divinely inspired ideas are
endless.
During
these days before Thursday, September 10, 2009 go online and
share your ideas with Silent Unity.
Never
doubt that one person can change the life of another. Any
action – no matter how great or small – makes a
difference.
Please
join us in being an instrument of peace and compassion, come
to Rev. Taylor’s Lecture on “Pray to the Power of Nine,”
Wednesday evening at 7:30 PM, September 9th and
to the Meditation Hour on Thursday, September
10th at 6:00 PM with myself as facilitator -
Unity’s World Day of Prayer. Together we can change the
world, helping to create heaven right here on
earth.

Unity
in the Pines Very Inspirational
Person
Barbara Moore Carr
is this month’s Very Inspirational Person. She will be 95 years
old in October and has been a Unity member for 50
years!
Born in St. Louis, MO, she moved to Kokomo, IN and lived there
for 15 years. When she was 15, her father died, at age 47, and
Barbara went to live with an uncle in Michigan while her sister
stayed in Kokomo with their mother. Barbara went to the
University of Michigan where she studied
biology.
In 1941, she moved to California, married a naval officer and
together they had two sons. In 1950, Barbara went to work in a
doctor’s office. Then, in 1959, she entered the teaching
profession. She taught primary grades in Pasadena and
Lancaster, CA.
Barbara has always enjoyed reading, dancing (especially square
dancing) and travel. In 1972, she had a great trip to Europe
starting with a Greek cruise and then inland. In 1980, she
spent 2 weeks in Russia, with a tour group, during the Olympic
Games. She remembers all the wonderful art work she saw
there.
Barbara continued to teach throughout the ‘80’s. In 1990, she
moved to Century Village. After first finding Unity in
Pasadena, Barbara has remained active in the church and Women
of Unity. As a good and active member, Barbara let’s the Board
know when she disagrees with something or has a suggestion for
improving the church. Right now, she has a “good feeling” about
how things are going at Unity in the
Pines.
World
Day of Prayer Meditation Hour
Join
Rev. Liz Petipren on Thursday, September, 10, 2009 as she
will guide you in sharing meditation, and a prayer circle in
honor of this year's Unity World Day of
Prayer.
This
service will be held at 6:00 PM in the Sanctuary at Unity in
the Pines. There are prayer request forms enclosed for you
to fill out and send or bring back to the church. These
prayer requests will be prayed over by all who come to the
meditation service and then forwarded to Silent Unity to be
prayed over for thirty days.
“World
Day of Prayer” is one of the Unity Movement’s inspirational
events. It is a world-wide, global event that is presented
every year on the second Thursday of September. This year’s
theme is – “Reach
In, Reach Out - We Can Change the
World”
Blessings to Think About
“Blessed are those who empty themselves of all desires but the
desire to know God, for they have created their own Heaven on
earth.”
“Blessed are they who turn toward God in times of need, for
they are comforted.”
“Blessed are those who allow the will of God to rule their
lives, for they have power over all external conditions in the
physical world.”
“Blessed are those who have God centered thinking and good
attitudes, for they manifest wondrous things in their
lives.”
“Blessed are those who are kind in thought and in deed, for
kindness is always shown to them in return.”
“Blessed are those who see only one Presence and one Power in
the universe, for they see God in everyone and
everything.”
“Blessed are those who have peace of mind and serenity, for
they are the bringers of light to this
planet.”
“Blessed are those who maintain their personal idealism and
convictions even when they receive self-criticism and
condemnation or other-criticism and condemnation, for they have
spiritual awakening.”
Rejoice and be happy; for your earthly rewards are great, as
were those of the people who went before you who steadfastly
stayed to the Truth.”
Blessings…..Rev. Tim

Update
on Church Renovation Committee
By
Joyce Bailey
The
Renovation Committee -- Eddie Perez, David Fields,
Antoinette Coniglio, Estelle Friedman and Rev. Liz Petipren
-- continues to meet. The current focus is selection of a
steeple. Estimates have been obtained from two companies
with complete steeple installation systems. Some members of
the committee have met with a representative from one
company located in Winter Haven. David Fields has continued
the communication regarding the structural design, placement
and permits.
In
addition, the committee is continuing to generate ideas on
landscaping and expanding the area for parking. There has
even been a review of sample materials and estimates are
being obtained.
The new
storm shutters should be installed by mid
September.
