Please Share Some Good News
Reverend Liz
Petipren
A good friend of
mine has a great message on her voice mail, she invites callers to “Please share some good news at the sound of
the beep”. I always like hearing her message because it reminds me that we can set up our communications to be
“Win – Win.” Do you know anyone who is so upbeat and forward-thinking that you would not dare be negative around
that person? All communication is based on frequency. In the Star
Trek series, communications officer Lieutenant Uhura would send out a “hailing frequency” when contacting
alien ships for the first time. She was essentially saying, “We are on
this frequency, and if you want to communicate with us, this is the level at which we invite you to meet
us.” A similar principle guides our devices in greeting others, whether it’s fax messages, texting, email,
or phone greetings, all are silent handshakes and leave an expression of our very own
uniqueness.
You can set the
tone for your communications by being clear about where you want to go with people. Perhaps you would like to be the person who is so committed to success and
happiness that people who are not successful, or happiness-oriented, do not dare go there with you. Even if they
do, you do not have to join them.
You do not
particularly need a voice-mail message to send a signal to your friends and associates about the kind of
communication you value. You simply need to be clear yourself. It is not your words that make or break you; it
is your energy.
I would imagine
that my good friend gets a lot more positive messages than negative ones on her voice mail. Wouldn’t you like to
check your voice mail knowing you will hear mostly things you would like to hear?
Affirmation: “I am committed to success, and I invite
success-minded people to join me for mutual empowerment.”

“Lunch Bunch” Sunday
Lunch Bunch Sunday will be October 23rd, at “The Carving Station” in Greenacres, located
on Lake Worth Rd, at the corner of Jog Road, in the Marshall’s / Staples Shopping
Center.
This buffet restaurant has proven to be Unity in the Pines favorite place to share our “Lunch
Bunch” Sunday together.
So, on popular suggestion, we will be attending this delightful place to eat for the next
several months.
Our “Lunch Bunch” Sunday will be on the 4th Sunday of the month, unless otherwise
announced. There will be no food or beverage served in fellowship hall on these Sundays.
Please let us know if you do have a favorite restaurant, that we can try out, by calling the
church office. See you at the “Caving Station”

Twinkies and
Root Beer
Contributed by Barbara
Carr
A little boy wanted to meet God. He knew
it was a long trip to where God lived, so he packed his suitcase with Twinkies and a six-pack of Root Beer and
he started his journey.
When he had gone about three blocks, He
met an elderly man. The man was sitting in the park just feeding some pigeons.
The boy sat down next to him and opened
his suitcase. He was about to take a drink from his root beer when he noticed that the man looked hungry, so he
offered him a Twinkie.
The man gratefully accepted it and
smiled at the boy. His smile was so pleasant that the boy wanted to see it again, so he offered him a root beer.
Again, the man smiled at him. The bay was delighted!
They sat there all afternoon eating and
smiling, but they never said a word. As it grew dark, the boy realized how tired he was and he got up to leave,
but before he had gone more than a few steps, he turned around, ran back to the man, and gave him a hug. The man
gave him his biggest smile ever.
When the boy opened the door to his own
house a short time later, his mother was surprised by the look of joy on his face. She asked him, “What did you
do today that made you so happy?”
He replied “I had lunch with God.” But
before his mother respond, he added “You know what? God has the most beautiful smile I’ve ever
seen!”
Meanwhile, the elderly man, also radiant
with joy, returned to his home. His son was stunned by the look of peace on his face and he asked, “Dad, what
did you do today that made you so happy?”
He replied, “I ate Twinkies in the park
with God.” However, before his son responded, he added, “You know, He’s much younger than I
expected.”
Too often we underestimate the power of
a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of
which have the potential to turn a life around. People come into our lives for a reason, a season, or a
lifetime. Embrace all equally!

Inga
Lohagren

Unity in the Pines
Very Inspirational Person for October.
Inga is
originally from Germany. She was born and attended school in Ausbach. After high school, she spent three years
in “Trade and Business School” and one year in “Household” school. She met her husband, Walter, while working as
a secretary for a furniture company. He proposed, and she accepted, on their first date!
Walter was
an interpreter for the U.S.Army. When his boss, an American, left Germany, he asked Walter to come with him and
manage his chicken farm in Lake Worth, FL. Inga was forced to wait in Germany, one year, until she was
twenty-one, before her parents consented to the marriage. They were married for twenty-two years and had one son
who lives in Oklahoma.
In spite of
having very limited English, Inga was hired by the Bath & Tennis Club of Palm Beach. She started as a
“sandwich girl” and moved on to salads and hors d’oeuvres. “This wonderful job lasted for 36 years and I loved
it, but with arthritis in my hands, I had to retire early.”
Because the
job was seasonal, Inga was able to return to Germany in the summer to visit her parents. However, after visiting
Florida, they bought a place, here, of their own.
Inga was
raised in the Lutheran church. In 1959, she started attending Unity on Flagler and, then, moved on to Unity in
the Pines. She is a member of “Women of Unity” and contributes regularly to our Fellowship
refreshments.
“I joined our little Church in the Pines and I’m still going there and I love it. Everybody is so nice – it’s like
a big family and I hope it will be there for a long, long time.”
