How Great Thou
Art
By
Reverend Liz Petipren
Most of us
are familiar with the hymn “How Great thou Art.” The
beauty of this hymn tunes us right into a feeling of
the greatness of God.
Most of us
have tremendous feelings about how great is the God who
rules the universe, but few realize how great we are as
individual expressions of God. God has given us the
power to become great and wonderful individuals. Did not
God create us in God’s own image and likeness? I believe
that it is up to us as individuals to bring forth this
likeness, that this is the greatest thing we are to
do.
To become
as great and wonderful as we were intended to be, we
need to appreciate and to follow the teachings of
Jesus. Jesus said to one of
His disciples who
was getting too concerned about the actions of
another disciple: “What is that to thee? “Follow me!”
This is a good text for us to remember. It has much
meaning for all of us. We get too concerned about the
actions of others. “Follow me,” means to follow the
teachings of the Christ as well as the light of the
Christ in us. We are not to follow the crowd but to
follow the Christ
within.
Greatness
does not mean that we have great position or great
fortune. Our greatness expresses itself through our
attitude toward people and circumstances. It
expresses itself as a feeling for all humanity. With
all of our wisdom and understanding, let us let love
shine through. Love is a quality that attracts our
good fortune to us. It attracts pleasant
relationships. Love attracts prosperity to us. It is
also the most potent healing
power.
As a
nation and as part of the world, we need to awaken to
a greater consciousness of the presence and power of
God. We are a part of what goes on in the entire
world, though we may not like to face it. Let us
learn to live in peace and understanding. Let it
begin with you, let it begin with me, let it begin
with us.
“I bless and bless again in 2010!”
Brick by brick a building is built. There are no shortcuts;
each brick is important and essential.
The good in our lives is built blessing by blessing. Even
when challenges come, blessing by blessing we grow through
them to greater good.
Our world still seems to face many appearances of
difficulty and disaster. We have a role to play in lifting
the consciousness of our planet. As we bless each person
and each experience and bless them again, we amplify the
activity of good in life.

When Cain was asked by God, “Where is your brother?” He
answered, “Am I my brother’s keeper?” We are not “keeper”
for our brothers and sisters, but we are their brothers and
sisters. When we understand that we really want the best
for them, we bless them and bless them again.
Blessing by blessing, as you extend to others, your
blessings will grow. As we give, we receive.
Make 2010 a year of many blessings. “I bless and bless
again in 2010!”
Joyous in Spirit,
Floyd
Ushering In
Tomorrow
Who will
usher in Tomorrow,
Who will
open up the Pearly Gates?
Will
everyone come all at once,
Or will a
smile be enough?
Will you
be a “push-over”,
Or are you
made of stronger stuff?
As the
angels open the gates,
To let
“tomorrow” in,
Who will
be the first to enter –
The
disabled puppy – or the baby without her
twin?
There is
no race to be the first,
All bad
weathers have been
dispersed.
There is
no rain or snow that falls,
Or hail the
size of yellow golf
balls!

We may
need to jolt the memories,
Of those
sleeping under the trees,
Be happy
about “tomorrow”,
Sighs the
gentle breeze.
What can
you bring to “tomorrow”
The
question is pondered by
many,
Some will
ready a suitcase,
For me –
I’ll bring a penny.
A penny
for your thoughts,
Tho I’m
sure they’re
worth much
more,
Nobody can
foretell it all,
Of
what “tomorrow”
has in store.
So-sound
the trumpets, beat the
drums,
We will be
ready – when “tomorrow”
comes.
Great
surprises will be for all,
Be it
Winter, Spring, Summer of
Fall,
You will
feel the LOVE from on high and know- that’s the best
of
“tomorrow” passing
by.
