Our
True Identity
Reverend Liz
Petipren
It seems to me
that there is one factor that always unites us, “our highest
common factor.”
In Unity we talk a great deal about this factor. We express it
in our teachings; we think about it; we practice it in
different ways.
It is the awareness of our spiritual
identity.
This was the basic
thought which changed the life of our Unity co-founder, Myrtle
Fillmore. “I am a child of God,” she
declared.
It was said of
Buddha that he was once asked by his disciples, “Who are you?”
he replied, “I am awake.” From that moment on he was called the
Buddha, or the “enlightened one”; "the awakened
one."
Perhaps you remember a
similar question was asked about
Jesus.
We are awake to
the degree that we know who we are when we can say in our
heart, “I am a child of God.”
If we can say that
in all sincerity, with complete conviction, then we are awake.
We can never really fall asleep; we can never go back into the
materialistic concept of life. Once we come into this awareness
of our spiritual identity, we can only go forward with
it.
There are minds and hearts that are being
stirred today in places of leadership, in prominent places of
government, in technology, in science, and so on. But
the great need is to have more and more people
who are not just
trying to relate
themselves on the
horizontal plane, person to person, but are also conscious of
this great need to allow themselves to be guided, to be
inspired, by this indwelling Spirit. When the Christ, our
God-self, is lifted up within us and becomes dominant in our
thinking, in our feeling, so that we truly learn to communicate
and cooperate, then this has the effect of lifting up the world
around us, and we shall see peace on
earth.
This idea was
stated two thousand years ago by Jesus
when He said: “When I am lifted up – all men are drawn to me.”
That same Spirit that was in Jesus is proclaiming the same
message in us today. It is up to each of us to know “Our True
Identity;” learn to use it more, not only to better our own
lives, but also to uplift the consciousness of our
world.
An Invitation to Participate
By Floyd Beil - Board of Trustees President
Greetings!
I am honored to be Unity in the Pines President of the Board of
Trustees. I believe that volunteerism is most important for a
church and its congregants. This church has an enormous amount
to teach you about how to have the kind of life you want
through applying the Unity Principles.
Prosperity, health, quality of relationships, inner peace, and
an ability to know and follow your inner guidance are just some
areas in which your life can improve. In learning Unity
Principles there are (as you might expect) two major aspects:
The first is hearing or reading about these principles. The
second is practicing their application.
If you are relatively new to this church (if you've been coming
here for less than six months), we encourage you to let this be
a time to receive through attending the services, classes, and
functions of the church. When you reach a point where you
recognize that what you are learning would be accelerated by
more fully practicing the theories you are learning, we invite
you to become a participant here.
A Spiritual Principle which operates in all relationships,
families, and groups states: You can receive from the
relationship to the degree that you give to the relationship.
What this means at the church is this: For all that is
available to you here, much of it cannot actually be given to
you. It can only be claimed by you through your giving to the
church (time, money, prayers, service) and your participation
in (not merely attendance at) its services, classes, workshops,
and volunteer programs.
Here at Unity in the Pines, our first interest is in you - your
desires and spiritual goals. Although this church must, of
course, function as a business (we have expenses and overhead
to pay), and although it depends on volunteers to provide its'
services at the highest level it can, we recognize that,
together, we are the church. If your participation here serves
you in achieving your life goals, it will also serve the goals
of your spiritual family.
I would like to expand our volunteer organizations to consist
of ministry teams, each focused on different aspects of our
church's operation. Inserted in this newsletter is a list of
volunteer positions. Sign up and/or call the church office to
volunteer and become one of Unity in the Pines Sacred Servers.
We look forward to working together with you.
Sincerely, Floyd
Floyd Beil - Board
President
Floyd Beil has been attending Unity in the Pines for about 10
years. He has served on the Board in the past as a Vice
President and is the new President. Floyd believes there
are some really wonderful things happening at this “little
church” and is grateful to be a small part of it. He is
constantly amazed at how all the congregants come together on a
regular basis and make Unity in the Pines such a great place to
worship the Lord
.

Jamie
Bryant - Back-up Vice-President
My
children and I love Unity in the Pines because it is exactly
what we feel a church should be. It is a comfortable,
relaxed and homey place to worship and grow spiritually. The
people are welcoming, warm, caring and respectful.
Opportunities to serve abound. And, most importantly, the
teaching is always practical, useful and
inspiring.

Kay
Thomas - Secretary
When
I moved to West Palm Beach in 2002, I was looking for a
church home, after many years of belonging to Religious
Science churches in Florida. I discovered Unity in the
Pines, and visited it several times. I was drawn to Unity in
the Pines due to the fact that it was a small church, with
warm, friendly members. The messages given each Sunday, were
a continuation of my beliefs, and were spiritually uplifting
and inspiring. I liked the feeling of belonging to a
“Spiritual Family.” I have seen many changes, and lately
some wonderful changes and growth. I am looking forward to
serving on the Board, and helping to make decisions with
other Board members for continuing growth and
development.

Orvilla Sheller - Back Up Secretary

Treasurer - Louse
Hunsinger
Louise Hunsinger has been a member of Unity since 1979, the
Women’s Club since 1982, the Board of Trustees since 1983 and
our Treasurer/Bookkeeper since 1985. And she bakes the most
heavenly
cakes!
Originally from Portsmouth, Ohio, Louise moved to Cincinnati in
1947 where she found work as a bookkeeper. That is also where
she met and married Carl Hunsinger. A year later they moved to
Florida. Although Louise doesn’t drive, she has always
found a way to get to church. She’s here every Sunday and
several times during the week. When asked what she’d like
others to know about her, she responded that “My faith always
got me through”.
Anne Bacon -
Director
“When the student is ready – the teacher will
appear.”
When I was ready to move on in my life from old worn out
beliefs of God and my relationship to God, a friend told me
about Unity – that was in 1992 and I have been active in the
Unity Movement ever since.
Over the years I have attended several Unity Churches in
different states, and I am now proud to say that I am a member
of Unity in the Pines. The special things I love about Unity
are the Sunday service, the Daily Word and the Prayer Line with
Silent Unity. All of these and more have sustained me in trying
times, and have helped me to greatly improve my personal
relationships with family and friends. Unity will always
be an integral part of my life.
Reverend Liz Petipren
After fulfilling the role of “Guest Speaker,” for two years,
Rev. Liz became a member of Unity in the Pines and was elected
President of the Board in 2007, and is now the
minister.
Prior to taking this position, Rev. Liz served as the Unity
minister of Unity in St. Cloud MN from 2000 to 2006, where she
conducted Sunday services, established a prayer team ministry,
and a Sunday school ministry. She also taught classes and book
studies in helping those willing to develop a stronger
awareness of God through the Unity
Principles.
Rev. Liz is a Licensed Unity Teacher in good standing with the
Association of Unity Churches International, and ordained
Inter-Faith, Non-Denominational minister. She has been a Unity
Truth student for the pass thirty years, attending Unity
churches in several States. Her talents are in journalism

spiritual growth through love and teamwork to all those who
come to Unity in the Pines.
