Gentle Jesus
Reverend Liz Petipren
The film and stage play “Whistle Down the Wind,” tells of
an escaped criminal who holes up in a deserted barn in the
country. Two children stumble upon him and imagine that he
is Jesus Christ. They call him “Gentle Jesus,” treat him as
God, bring him gifts, and play with him. Although he is
hardened and resistant at first, over time the criminal softens
and grows kind, thoughtful, and playful. Eventually the
children’s innocent love and respect for the man transforms
him, and he becomes Christ like.
Christmas celebrates the birth of Jesus the man, but even
more significantly, it honors the birth of the Christ, the divine
spirit that animated Jesus. It is easy to get overly involved in
the details of the man or worship him as a person. Yet his
real gift is the level of consciousness he represented. He
showed how to live in divine ways even while walking in a
body on Earth.
Jesus is not a god to be worshipped, but a model to be
emulated. He does not want us to bow down to him, but to
walk straight and tall, with dignity and grace, by his side. He
does not want followers, but peers. The same Christ light
that shone through him shines through you. The greatest gift
you can give Jesus is to join him in his wholeness and divinity.
This Holiday Season let the Christ or the illumined one be
born in you. If God is the sun, you are a ray. Every attribute
of the sun is in the ray. The only difference between Jesus
and us is that he knew who he was, and we are in the
process of remembering. Today is the day to shift your
sense of identity from an escaped criminal of the flesh to a
divine being. Christmas is not a date, it is a state of mind.
Affirmation - “I celebrate my own divinity and that of
everyone I know.”

The
recent pancake brunch was a huge success. Everyone
present had a delicious brunch and fellowship together. If
there is interest in holding this event more often please let
the board members know. Special thanks to the cooks who
made this function possible. Rev. Liz Petipren and Christina
Callahan prepared the pancakes and I was their helper. Also
to all those who contributed with those special side dishes,
“Thank you!”
If you were to consider becoming a Board of Trustees
member of our church you would definitely be helping Unity
in the Pines continue to be a center of light and love for all
who come here. Please see Betti Rogers and or Christina
Callahan to become a candidate to be voted on at the
January annual meeting. Let Spirit lead, we love you, we
appreciate you and we honor the Christ in you.
“A
Taste of Unity in the Pines”
The Unity in the Pines cook book, “A Taste of Unity in the
Pines” is available for $15.00 in our book room. This cook
book will make an excellent “Holiday” gift for those who want
to try some new recipes. All of the recipes have been sub-
mitted by our church members and friends. The proceeds
of this cook book go to further renovations of the church
kitchen. “A Taste of Unity in the Pines” is chock full of
scrumptious
recipes, try some, you will not be disappointed.
