You may have seen the poster suggesting “Bloom where you are planted,” meaning that the best place for
you to grow and express your gifts is right where you are. This is excellent advice we could all benefit from
applying.
Yet there is another path of growth through which we can end up blooming elsewhere than our original
planting. If you want to grow a plant, there are two ways to do it: (1) you can plant a seed or a cutting right
into the ground and let it grow where it will live; or (2) you can plant a seed or cutting in a flowerpot,
nurture it in a greenhouse, and then when it is stronger and more mature, transplant it to the location where it
will ultimately blossom.
I
was talking to a woman who jokingly referred to her relationship with her former husband as “My practice
marriage.” She wed this man at a young age and stayed with him for a few years. The couple divorced, and a
number of years later she married a man whom she stayed with for a long time. In her mind the second marriage
was her real one, and the first was a warm-up. In a sense, she started her marriage journey in a flowerpot; and
later she was transplanted to a patch of earth where she could grow deep roots, extend long branches, and
display her colorful flowers.
Likewise, you may be in a job, relationship, or living situation that is not your ideal or your
ultimate position. Yet you are growing, learning, and developing insights and skills that will ultimately serve
you in a situation that is your ideal. Your time in the flowerpot is no less real or important than your
ultimate desirable situation. Do not regret or criticize such an experience. Instead, honor and appreciate it,
for it has value in itself and prepares you for even better.
Affirmation:“I am grateful for all of my
relationships and experiences, for they have contributed to my betterment and success.

Unity
in the Pines Recipe Book

|
"Who brought
the Mediterranean salad to the Potluck? I want the recipe."
"What am I going to cook tonight for dinner?"
"How can we raise some money for the church?"
Now there's an answer for all three questions: Unity in the Pines is
compiling a recipe book, which we'll then sell for a modest price. (Price to
be determined) Please share your favorite
recipes with us, whether they're treasured family favorites handed down from
Great-Aunt Agatha, or you got
them off the label of a soup can. If you enjoy them, that's good enough for
us. We want recipes for all sorts of foods: soups, main courses, side dishes,
desserts, dips, salads, holiday foods, or ???
We want recipes of all levels of complexity, from easy meals or one-course
meals through complicated recipes that take hours to prepare.
And we want as many recipes as you'd care to write out...or, hopefully,
type.
Please include YOUR NAME, so we can credit the recipe properly to you in the
book.
Cynthia MacGregor is coordinating this project. She asks that if you are
online you send your recipes to her at Cynthia@cynthiamacgregor.com.
Please put CHURCH RECIPES in the subject line.
If you're not online, but you have a typewriter, typing is easier to read
than handwriting. But of course, neatly handwritten recipes are welcome too.
If you're not online, you can either mail your recipe to Cynthia or give
it
to her in church on Sundays or drop it in the basket marked RECIPES on the
green table in the church lobby.
