Continuing to Learn
by Reverend Liz Petipren
Not all of us are involved with children and the back-to-school event, but how could we not
notice the profusion of school supplies that seem to be for sale everywhere? As I looked at one of the colorful
displays, it almost made me want to go back to school again! But then, I thought, maybe we’ve never left school –
we certainly are never beyond our learning years. As adults, we continue our education in our classroom of
life.
Unity’s way has always emphasized education. Each one of us has the right to question and
examine our beliefs. It is good for all of us to be informed and to look at alternatives to the concepts we may be
holding that are no longer useful.
We are by nature, curious people that has led us to discover new places, new friends and fresh
new ideas. For many people, including myself, that curiosity led us to Unity where we are encouraged to explore.
For those who wish to continue seeking, there is a whole new world of self-awareness awaiting us.
These new ideas include learning about a loving Creator who does not condemn us but always loves
us. The seeker learns that we have been created good and each of us has the spark of Divinity within. We also
discover in this classroom of life that by changing our thinking, we can change our lives. Each of us is on an
incredible, never ending journey of spiritual evolution – maybe that’s why we call ourselves Unity “Truth
students.” We are continually learning and open to new
ideas.
Throughout all of our classes, our purpose is to help and inspire so that each of us can be
everything that we are meant to be. Self-discovery is truly an exciting process, and August seems to mark a new
beginning in renewing our personal growth. So let’s begin right now – think of Your Self as a possibility. You are
far from finished. There is much to learn about your personal power and about making your dreams a
reality.
In August we celebrate our God-given Power of Will, our time of summer fun is rapidly coming to
an end. So now is the time to being willing to get involved again and perhaps find your place on one of the
committees or to join a group or a class. With our children coming together again, there is a growing need for
assistance in our soon to begin again Sunday school classes held during our worship service. The success of our
children’s spiritual experience depends almost entirely on the personal involvement of each and every parent. But
for those of you who have no children in the program, we welcome your participation as well. In the world that
grows ever more impersonal, it’s important that we give ourselves and our children the opportunities to experience
a spiritual family. Let’s do this together – a blessing awaits us all.
Notes from the
President
Estelle Freeman
When I was young
girl (many, many years ago) I often heard the saying “A rose by any other name is still a rose”. As a
teenager I came to know that GOD by any other name is still GOD. It is this knowledge that makes me
gravitate to people who recognize the GOD of many names who lives within each of us. The loving,
compassionate, always giving, forgiving GOD. GOD who walks beside us as a companion, walks before us as a
leader, and lifts us up when we fall, holds us close when we are filled with sorrow, and laughs with us when we
are joy-filled. GOD, who loves us unconditionally.
I came to Unity
in the Pines to be with others who recognize, embrace and love the GOD of many names. Thank you for
sharing you with me.
On October
16th we will celebrate the 50th birthday of Unity in the Pines. We need many hands
to make our “HARVEST THE SPIRIT OF UNITY” day a joy-filled event. We plan to have activities for children
of all ages…things to eat, things to buy, things to do, things to remember…happy things. Please offer to
be a part of our planning committee. You can call me at 968-4123 or sign up at
Unity.
I
look forward to being with you.

Blessing for a
Church
James Dillet Freeman
This is God’s house.
May we come here not only to find out about God, but find God.
May there be beauty in this place, but especially
May it be a place where men and women
Become aware of the beauty in themselves.
May this be a place of worship.
May this be a place of instruction.
May this be a place of singing. May this be a place of prayer.
But for us who worship and take instruction and sing and play,
May this always be a place of inner stillness, where we may listen and hear when God
speaks.
May whoever ministers here, minister in love.
May whoever teaches here teach truth.
May whoever serves here serve pleasantly.
May everyone come into this house in expectation
and go with thanksgiving, and
May anyone who comes needing help go feeling blest.
May this be such a house that Jesus Christ - or any stranger, even one of the least –
Would feel in it that He was with friends.
Amen
