ABOUT US
Unity in the Pines was
started in April, 1955 by Rev. Fermor Marley. We were located in downtown Lake Worth, FL and called Unity of
Lake Worth. The church was located 621 N. H Street. For a short period of time, in 1956, we had Rev. Eva
Rosencrans. Then Rev. Mary Kupferle took over the ministry and was the senior minister from 1956 to 1965. After
that, we hired Rev. Tom Coates who ministered to us from November 1966 to July 1972. Rev. Eversale was the
minister from September 1972 to September 1975 followed by Rev. John Cuddeback until December
1977.
Stability came to Unity
of Lake Worth when Rev. Larry Kendrick came in October 1977. He retired in April 1996. During his tenure the
church moved from Lake Worth to 6073 Summit Blvd., West Palm Beach and changed its name to Unity in the Pines.
After Rev. Kendrick’s retirement, we had three ministers, Rev. Stephen Willingham, Rev. Bill King and Rev. Paul
Gilman. They were all ministers of the Association of Unity Churches.
From 2005 to 2007, Rev.
Kathleen Bishop, Rev. Gloria Alexander and Rev. Tim Sodergren, all ordained ministers of the Conference of
Practical Christianity (AKA “The Federation”) have acted as spiritual counselors and ministers of the
church.
The Rev. Stephen
Willingham was called back to Unity in the Pines in May 2008 and left again the following November. After that,
the church operated under the supervision of the Board of Trustees. Rev. Liz Petipren, a Licensed Unity Teacher
and ordained Inter-Faith Minister, served as Board President.
Unity in the Pines has
regained its affiliation with the Association of Unity Churches. After operating with a rotation of guest
speakers, all of whom follow the Unity Principles established by Charles and Myrtle Fillmore, co-founders of the
Unity Movement, Rev. Liz Petipren was selected to be the Minister for Unity in the
Pines.
